Charles W. Farrington, age 76, of Erie passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2012 after an extended illness surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Erie on January 2, 1936 a son of the late Norman C. and Viola Storch Farrington.
Charles was a graduate of Erie Technical High School, class of 1954 and also graduated from ATES electronics school. He worked at Penelec for 32 years retiring in 1994. He also had an electronic organ repair business for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Norma Haft and Edna Franz and their husbands and a sister-in-law Phyllis Farrington.
He is survived by his wife Marion O'Leary Farrington whom he married on May 25, 1957, his son Scott and fiancé Cindy, his daughters Michele Kuno and husband Dan of Edinboro, Cheryl Harbaugh husband Paul of Girard; grandchildren, Lisa Kuno, Laura Kuno, Shannon Varlesi and husband Jason, Danielle Puglise and husband Chris and Charles Harbaugh and a great granddaughter Justine. He is also survived by his brother Norman C. Farrington, Jr. of Woodbridge, VA.
Charles was a member of Commodore Perry Yacht Club where he served as Commodore in 1982 and 1995. He was a member of the International Order of the Blue Gavel, the Inter-Lake Yachting Association, Life Member of the Yankee Air Museum, Erie County Historical Society and the Lake Shore Railway Historical Society where he served as President for several years. He had been a member of the Erie Maennerchor, Siebenberger, Elks Lodge 67, American Legion Post 105 and the East Erie Turners. He was a past board member of the Erie Civic Music Association.
He served with United States Marine Corp and Reserves for 12 years. He was a Civil War reenactor acting as a Major in the 4th South Carolina Infantry.
Friends are invited to call at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street, on Sunday from 7 to 9 pm and on Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 pm. A service will be held there on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum with full military honors.
