James L. Casey, age 79, of Erie, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at Saint Vincent Health Center.

Born in Erie on December 17, 1930, he was a son of the late James J. and Genevieve (Fuhrman) Casey.
A graduate of Cathedral Prep, he served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. In 1993, he retired from the City of Erie Streets Department, where he was a heavy equipment operator for thirty six years. He was a member of Teamsters Local No. 397 and served as an officer for many years. He was also a member of the Siebenbuerger, Holy Trinity and Forester Clubs. Jim enjoyed golf and was a frustrated Cleveland Indians and Browns fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Carrick, and a great-niece, Chelsea McGrorey. Survivors include his wife, Irene Tammaro Casey, whom he married in 1952; a daughter, Colleen Meyer, husband Robert, of Erie; a son, Gary Casey, wife Paula, of McKean; a sister, Denise Evans, husband Mike, of Harborcreek; four grandchildren, Jeffery Meyer, wife Michele, of Long Island, NY, Chrystie Meyer, boyfriend David Raymond, of Indiana, PA, and Brandon and Briana Casey, both of McKean; two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Brady Meyer; many nieces and nephews, including Michelle McGrorey, husband Mike, of Erie, Jennifer Babcock, husband Chuck, of Phoenix, AZ, and Rebecca Kiley, husband Steve, of Corning, NY; and also several great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends may call Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brugger Home for Funerals, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard, and may attend a service there Saturday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint John the Baptist Church at 10 o'clock. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. |
