Rosaline "Ro" Mineo Piazza, 84, who taught in Union City Schools over 35 years, of St. Mary's Home at Asbury Ridge, and formerly of West High Street in Union City, died at St. Mary's Sunday, February 28th, 2010.
Born in Union City May 17, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Frances Mineo. Ro was a graduate of Edinboro University and held a masters degree in Education. She earned her Reading Supervisor's Degree with additional graduate work at New York University, Penn State University and the University of Pittsburgh. She began her career in Brockway, PA, taught at Bloomfield High School for 3 years, and then at Union City Area Senior High School until retiring in 1992. Although she loved all her students, she held a special love for her room B-2'ers. |

She was a lifetime member of St. Teresa Roman Catholic Church in Union City. Ro was a member of the Alpha Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Alpha Psi Omega Dramatic Fraternity, the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, and the Union City Retired Teachers' Association. She was selected as an outstanding Secondary Educator of America in 1975.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Paul Piazza, twin brother of Frances Ann Piazza, in 1956; two sisters, Prudence Mineo in 1949, and Anna Marie Mineo in 1994, and a brother, Frank Mineo in 1978. Survivors include her beloved husband of 59 years, Columbus "Con" Piazza, three sons, Samuel Piazza, wife Carol, and Ralph Piazza, all of Union City, and Russell Piazza, wife Lori, of Jamestown, NY; two daughters, Rosemary Szall, husband Ronald, and Frances Ann Piazza, friend Pam Wiley, all of Erie; 2 grandchildren, Bethany and Joshua Szall, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours at Brugger Home for Funerals, 1595 West 38th at Greengarden Blvd., Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and at St. Mary's Home at Asbury Ridge Thursday from 10:00 a.m until the Mass of Christian Burial there at 11:00 a.m. with Father Dennis Martin officiating. Burial at St. Teresa Cemetery. The family of Rosaline wants to especially thank the wonderful staff at St. Mary's Home for their loving care. |
