Cleveland William Werntz (2010-03-08)

Cleveland William Werntz, age 59, of Washington Avenue, passed away Monday, March 8, 2010 at Hamot Medical Center. Born in Erie on October 16, 1950, he was a son of Marjorie Marie (Buchner) Werntz Aldrich, of Girard, and the late Elmer Roy Werntz.

He retired in November 2009 as a material controller in General Electric Bldg. 2., after 35 years. He was a member of the Presque Isle Jaycees. Cleveland enjoyed traveling, cooking and watching the Food Network and WWE, and celebrating Halloween year-round.


He was preceded in death by his father, his wife, Susan Irene (Thomas) Werntz, in 2004, and two step-sisters, Diane Guin and Kathi Aldrich. In addition to his mother, survivors include a daughter, Carrie Plyler, of Millcreek; a son, Christopher David Werntz, wife Thomasinna, of Ft. Stuart, GA; three grandchildren, Blake Werntz and Alexis Plyler, both of Millcreek, and Nevin William Carter Werntz, of North Carolina; a sister, Patricia Aldrich, husband Stephen, of Girard; two step-brothers, Tim Aldrich, wife Kathy, of Girard, and Doug Aldrich, wife Kathy, of Erie; two step-sisters, Linda Thompson, of Erie, and Jean Shoup, of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Brugger Home for Funerals, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard, Friday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 8:30 p.m., at which time a service will be conducted by Rev. Dwayne Cole, Pastor of New Hope Presbyterian Church. Private interment at Lakeside Cemetery.
