Columbus (Con) J. Piazza, 82, formerly of West High Street in Union City, died at his residence, Saint Mary's Home at Asbury Ridge, on Monday, March 15, 2010.

He was born in Phillipsburg, NJ on August 26, 1927, son of the late Sam and Rosina (Frankina) Piazza. Con worked for the Model Diary Company of Corry, PA, for several years. He then owned and operated Con's HiLo Market in Union City for many years. He later worked for Columbus Meat Packing in Columbus, PA, and eventually retired from Super Duper in Waterford, PA.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corp. Con was a member of St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Union City and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. For those who knew Con, they would remember his beautiful flowers around his home, a strong passion for nature and his great story telling. He had a superb knowledge of antique cars and could explain the history behind them all. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosaline "Ro" Piazza, just two weeks ago, on February 28, 2010; by a son, Larry Paul Piazza; twin brother of Frances Ann Piazza, in 1956; a brother, Christopher Piazza; and two sisters, Virginia (Piazza) Fletcher and Concetta (Piazza) Conn. Survivors include three sons, Samuel Piazza, wife Carol, Ralph Piazza, all of Union City, and Russell Piazza, wife Lori, of Jamestown, NY; two daughters, Rosemary Szall, husband Ronald, and Frances Ann Piazza, friend Pam Wiley, all of Erie; two grandchildren, Bethany and Joshua Szall; and several nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by four brothers, Charles Piazza, of North East, Floyd Piazza, of Harborcreek, John Piazza, of Westfield, NY, and Frank Piazza, of North East; five sisters, Evelyn (Piazza) Tartarella, of Westfield, NY, Mabel (John) Skellie, of Findley Lake, NY, Adrianna Piazza, Frances (Piazza) Evans, and Mary (Rex) Dimperio, all of North East. Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brugger Home for Funerals, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard. Further calling will be held Thursday at Saint Mary's Home at Asbury Ridge Chapel from 10 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 o'clock, with Father Dennis Martin officiating.
