Helen A. "Kowalski" Kowalewski (Wychulis)

          Helen A. (Wychulis) “Kowalski” Kowalewski, age 94, of Erie, passed away at Forestview Skilled Nursing Center, Sunday, January 6, 2019. Born in Kingston, Pa., October 19, 1924, she was a daughter of the late William and Anna (Sincavage) Wychulis.

          Helen began her working career as an instrument inspector for the Department of the Navy and then worked for Metropolitan Life both in New York City before moving to Erie.  She retired in 1988 from St. Vincent Health Center, where she was the housekeeping supervisor after 23 years of service. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church.

          She enjoyed playing bingo, gardening, going to the casino and her pets.  Helen loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was a very nurturing person.

          Helen was preceded in death by her husband Steve Kowalewski in 1988 and her siblings, William, Edward and Agnes Wychulis.

          She is survived by her son Rich Kowalski, wife Sue of Erie, a daughter, Victoria Weber, husband John of Erie; her grandchildren, Kristen Quick of Greenwich, CT, Brian Kowalski, wife Colette of Columbus, OH and Christopher Kowalski, wife Monica of Columbus, OH; her great grandchildren, Kendall and Brielle Quick, Maxwell and Frederick Kowalski, and Justin, Nathan and Molly Jane Kowalski.  She is also survived by a step-daughter, step grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

          Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street.  A service will be held there on Friday at 10:15 am followed by a funeral mass at St. John the Baptist Church at 11 am.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

          Helen’s family would like to thank the staff of Forestview for their exceptional care of her.  She had many friends at Forestview including the residents and staff.  Memorials may be made to Emmaus Ministries, 345 East 9th Street, Erie, PA 16503 or the ANNA Shelter, 1555 East 10th Street, Erie, PA 16511.
