Aloysius V. Trejchel

Aloysius V. “Al” Trejchel, age 79, of Erie passed away on Saturday, April 19th, 2014 at his residence.  He was born in Erie on September 13, 1934 the son of the late Aloysius J. and Wanda (Niedzielski) Trejchel.

Al graduated from Erie Tech High School and later attended Gannon University. Upon his 18th birthday, Al volunteered for the United States Navy. From February 1953 to February 1955 he served onboard the USS Muliphen (AKA-61) as a machine repair man first class petty officer. From 1955 to 1957 Al served onboard the USS Fulton (submarine repair ship) affording him the opportunity to work on the first nuclear submarine, USS Nautilus.  Al spent 28 years on the Erie Fire Department, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant in 1989.  He also worked for Pastore Brothers Builders for over 30 years. He was a life member of the Siebenbuerger Club, and a member of the American Legion, Carl Neff post. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, and working on his village which was displayed in his backyard every summer for family & friends to enjoy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Wanda Trejchel, and his granddaughter Alison.

Al is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margie M. (Sonoski) Trejchel; five children, Ray Trejchel (Tracie), Linda Trejchel, Diane Trejchel, Shirley Vommaro (John) all of Erie, and Steve Trejchel of Columbus, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Pierre, Monica, Maria, Ryan, Megan, Cole, Jake, and Luke. Also surviving are his siblings: Phil Trejchel (Pat), Rita Trejchel, Becky Lydic (Ben) and Barney Trejchel (Joyce) and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 10 am until the time of a funeral mass at 11 am at Holy Rosary Church, 2701 East Avenue. Burial will be private. Arrangements by the Brugger Funeral Home & Crematory, 845 East 38th Street.

Al’s family would like to thank Dr. Walter Johns, Visiting Nurse Ali Johnson, and Erie VA and Hospice staff for their care.
