Gertrude Jane Milkowski, age 85, of Millcreek, passed away Sunday, April 09, 2017 at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge. Born in Erie, December 26, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Helen (Oliver) Zaunegger.
Gertrude was raised and educated in Erie; attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Academy High School. She worked several years as a nurse’s aide and retired as the volunteer coordinator for Hospice of Metropolitan Erie. She was long time member of Our Lady of Peace Church and its Rosary Altar Society. She was an associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph was active in the Cursillo movement and made Cursillo #36. Gertrude was a member of the Millcreek Kiwanis Club, was a former board member and recipient of the Kiwanian of the Year award. She was also a special events volunteer for Greater Erie Area Habitat for Humanity.
In addition to her parents and her sister Rita, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of more than 50 years, Lawrence F. Milkowski.
She is survived by four children, Francis Milkowski (Paula) of Erie, Anne Milkowski of Atlanta, Georgia, Tom Milkowski (Anita) and Nancy Milkowski, of Erie; three grandchildren, Carrie, Patrick and Mallory Milkowski.
Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St. at Greengarden Blvd., Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., and to attend prayers there, Tuesday at 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral Mass at Our Lady of Peace Church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
