ito “Vic” Sciarrino, age 92, of Erie, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Sarah Reed Retirement Center.  He was born in Carini, Sicily on November 5, 1924 to the late Matteo and Maria Sciarrino.

Vito came to this country as a young boy and grew up in Brooklyn, New York.  He served in the US Army during World War II.  After the war, he moved to Erie.  He was a respected and successful car dealer and salesman for over forty years. An avid gardener, he spent countless hours tending the many fruit trees and vegetables he planted at his Fairview home.  His grandchildren loved being “out back” with grandpa.  The “Johnny Appleseed” of fig trees, Vito has left a legacy of his beloved Sicilian figs, planting them across the country as his children moved to new homes and new states; a tradition the family happily continues.

Vito was the last surviving child in his family preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Sciarrino and Susanna Monterosso, and four brothers, Joseph, Enzo, John and Anthony Sciarrino, nephews, Matthew Sciarrino and Vincent Ciotti and niece, Nancy (Randazzo) Eckerdt.

Throughout Vito’s illness, one thing remained constant and unmistakable, his deep love for his wife. Vito is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-seven years, Mary (Randazzo) Sciarrino.  Their four children, Mary Grace Clement (Haywood), Matthew Sciarrino, Geraldine Provost (Thomas), and Anthony Sciarrino (Lydia). Nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at St. Joseph/Bread of Life Community, 147 W.24th Street, on Saturday from 12 Noon until the time of a funeral mass at 1 P.M. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street.
