Audrey Marie Zimmer, age 95, passed away on April 5, 2018 at Manchester Commons surrounded by her family.  She was born in Erie on Nov. 9, 1922, daughter of Arthur and Marie (Schmitt) Hetherington.  She was united in marriage to Bernard P. Zimmer on May 10, 1941 in Ripley, NY.  He preceded her in death Dec. 19, 1997.  They were married for 56 blissful years.

 

A lifelong Erie resident Audrey graduated from Strong Vincent High School and worked at Erie Resistor.  Audrey had an unwavering faith in God and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church.  Additionally, she was a member of Knights of St. John and the Siebenbuerger Club.

 

As the matriarch of her family, Audrey served as an enthusiastic homemaker who enjoyed gardening, crossword puzzles and spending time with her loved ones. Later in life, she discovered a passion for traveling and was always eager to experience new places and meet new people around the world.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter Nancy (Klebes), son Gary, as well as many brother-in-laws, sister in-laws and cousins.

 

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Barry and wife Nancy of Erie, Keith and wife Susan of Erie, son-in-law Harold Klebes; six grandchildren: Diana (George) of Frisco, TX, Jeffrey of Nashville, TN, Jennifer Burkett (Charles) of Erie, Julie of Erie, Gregory of Youngstown, OH and Joseph (Jessica) of Pittsburgh, PA, along with seven great-grandchildren: Ashley, Hayleigh, Aubrey, Grace, Henry, Savannah and Mason.  In addition, she is survived by several brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

Audrey’s family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Manchester for their compassion and care.

 

Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St. at Greengarden Blvd., and may attend services there on Tuesday at 9:30a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Blessed Sacrament Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
