Howard W. Beanland, age 84, of McKean Township, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2018. He was born in Lawrence Park, on December 13, 1933, a son of the late Haddon S. and Bessie Rosenburg Beanland.

Howard is survived by his brother Robert C. Beanland of Erie; his four children, William O. (Kimberly) Beanland of Leesburg, VA, H. Eric Beanland of Erie, Deborah J. (Kevin) Rowland of Huntersville, NC, and Kimberly D. McDonagh of Renton, WA; and five grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Judy Schumacher Beanland; three sisters, Marjorie Walker, Doris Seyfarth, and Laura Chapman; and two brothers, Harold and Raymond Beanland.

After graduating from Lawrence Park High School (Class of 1951) and the General Electric Apprentice Program, Howard served five years in the US Air Force. He flew both F-86 and F-102 fighter jets and was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain.

When his military service ended, Howard returned to General Electric as a manufacturing controller, eventually retiring in 1992 after 35 years at the Erie Plant.

Howard's two passions were woodworking and landscaping. For over 30 years, he built beautiful custom furniture based on nothing more than photographs or hand sketches.

In retirement, after moving from Millcreek to McKean, Howard transformed the wooded property surrounding his home into a tranquil oasis with meticulously manicured lawns, flowering hedges, and exotic trees.
