Mrs. Theresa Marie Abbate Prassack, 82, of  Erie, passed away November 9, 2018. Theresa was born January 20, 1936, in Erie, PA, to the late Giovanni Abbate and Mary Elda Amendola Abbate.  One of seven children, she grew up in the Catholic faith and was a member of the Catholic Church throughout her life. As a schoolgirl, she attended St. Benedict Academy and then completed courses at a technical school to become a bookkeeper. Early in her career, Theresa worked as a bookkeeper with Lake Engineering; later, having discovered a passion for teaching swimming, she worked for the Iroquois School District as an administrator and pool instructor. Theresa spent time working at the YWCA, teaching babies and children to swim, as well as helping adults who were afraid of the water to overcome their fear. She also used her gifts to volunteer and teach severely handicapped children at the Gertrude Barber Center how to swim. Theresa volunteered with the Whole Foods Co-Op in Erie, back in the early days when it was just getting started. An avid skier, Theresa enjoyed being on the slopes and qualified for the ski patrol at Peek’n Peak Ski Resort. She was a lover of all dogs and her smile could light up a room when her favorite, Shan, was around.

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Frankie and Jimmy Abbate; and her sisters, Edie Abbate McKee and Rosemarie Abbate.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John (Jack) Prassack; daughters Lisa Prassack (Matt Murray) and Sheryl Gamble (T); sister Carol Dean (Jerry) and brother Tony Abate (Peg); and two grandchildren, Layla and Wil Gamble.  She also leaves behind her special friend, Temeca Miller, who cared for her in her last months.

Friends may call at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard on Friday, November 16th from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm and are invited to attend a prayer service at the funeral home on Saturday, November 17th at  11:30 am followed by a funeral mass at Our Lady of Peace Church at 12:00 pm.
