Dennis David Kormos

    September 1, 1947 - November 15, 2018

          Dennis D. Kormos, age 71, “Fell asleep in the Lord” at his Barber Center Group Home in Erie, PA, Thursday, November 15, 2018.  Born in Erie, PA, September 1, 1947, he was the son of Theodore Michael Kormos and Catherine (Raydo) Kormos.

          Born with Cerebral Palsy, at the age of 3 1/2,  in 1951, he was the poster child for Easter Seals for the Erie County Crippled Children’s Society.  He also attended the Erie County Crippled Children’s School.  During summers he attended Camp-Lend-A-Hand and was a member of the Steady Strivers Club.  He worked at the Gertrude Barber Center Day Program while living with his parents until 1992 when he went to live at the Barber National Institute Lancaster Group Home specifically built for six wheelchair individuals.  Dennis retired in 2014 at age 67.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Joseph F. Campione and nephew Joseph L. “Joey” Campione; his godfather Raymond Kidd; as well as many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

          He is survived by his siblings, Thomas M. Kormos (Philip J. Gibson) of Grand Rapids, MI;  Jacqueline K. Cravens (Chauncey G.) of Winston-Salem, NC; Timothy T. Kormos (Roxanne Cassavaugh) of Oakdale, CT; and Kathleen S. Campione.

          Nieces, Jocelyn T. (Campione) Santucci (Vincent F.) of Pittsburgh, PA; and Jacqlyn C. Campione (Michael Wicker) of San Diego, CA; and Nephews, Chad M. Kormos (Tzipporah Kertesz) of Apex, NC; Dane H. Kormos (Stephanie Coglano) of Downingtown, PA; and Aaron S. Kormos of Oahu, HI serving in the U.S. Army.

          In addition, a Great Niece Carmelina A. (Lina) and Great Nephew Vincenzo J. (Enzo) Santucci of Pittsburgh, PA; and  Great Nieces, Madeline P. and Naomi J. Kormos of Apex, NC.

          He is also survived by his godmother, Mary (Raydo) DeHaven of Tampa, FL as well as many cousins.

         Dennis shared his home with other individuals with disabilities; Nancy and Donna since 1992; and currently with Crystal, Janice, and Audrey.

          Appreciation is extended to the caregivers at Lancaster House part of Barber National Institute (including Niccole S., Kayla B., Kayla R., Kristen D., Shannon T., Stephanie R., Karen T., Jenna K., Megan C., Joyce A., Celena D., Angela L., Yana M., Karen P., Nick J., and many others from the past 27 years). Special appreciation to Primary Care Physician Cassie J. Harrington, MD and all the medical personnel over the years who cared for Dennis especially his nurse Krystal S. and the staff past and present at the Barber National Institute.

          Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th Street at Greengarden Blvd., Erie PA, Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. until the Parastas service at 8:30 p.m.  There will be a Panachida at the funeral home, Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 11:15 a.m. followed by a noon funeral service at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 1123 East Avenue, Erie PA, by Father Nicholas Mihaly.  Burial will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery on Old French Road, Erie, PA.
