Certified Public Accountant

Albert J. Gusky, age 82, died Saturday, November 24, 2018 at UPMC Hamot.  He was born December 24, 1935, in Erie, son of the late Albert J. and Mary (Blasco) Gusky.

He graduated from Cathedral Preparatory School in 1954; then received his bachelor’s degree from Gannon College in 1958.  Al then served on active duty with the U. S. Army Ordnance Corps.  He attained the rank of Captain while serving in the U. S. Army Reserves.

Al last worked as the Chief Financial Officer and corporate Secretary of Erie Industrial Supply Co.  He formerly worked as a certified public accountant for Appletree and Simmons, and Main Hurdman.  He was a member of the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of Certified Public Accountants and the Institute of Management Accountants.

Al was former President of the Erie Youth Hockey Club and was a member of Lake View Country Club. 

Prior to joining Our Lady of Peace parish where he served as an usher, he was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish where he served on the Finance Committee, and the Rev. Joseph T. Scheffner Endowment Fund, was the former President of the School Advisory Committee, and was a Eucharist minister and lector.  He was a member of the Eucharistic ministry at Hamot Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara (Mihalic) Gusky.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Roberta H. (Henrich) Gusky; one son, Alan J. Gusky and his wife Sherry of Dayton, OH; two daughters, Carla A. Kielar and Lynn M. Gwinn and her husband, James all of Erie; six grandchildren, Jessica, Megan, Peyton, Colton, Michael and Maggie; one sister, Mary Annette Franz and her husband C. Robert of Manhattan, Kansas.

Friends may call on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street.  Services will be held there on Saturday at 9:30 am followed by a funeral mass at 10 am at Our Lady of Peace Church.  Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
