Entertainer, Musician, and Professional Clown

Fran (Niebauer) Hetz, age 78, of Waterford passed away December 20, 2018.  Born in Erie July 4, 1940 she was a daughter of the late Richard and Edith Rose (Shuster) Niebauer.

Fran lived and worked all her life in Erie.  She graduated from Blessed Sacrament in 1953 and Academy High School in 1957.  She worked for Erie Resistor after high school for more than 12 years.  In 1971 she married Arthur Hetz at the Cauley Community of St. Patrick Church where she sang, played, and directed music for 8 years.

Franny always considered herself blessed by God’s Gift of music with the voice she was given.  An equal blessing in her life was when she met her husband, Arthur Hetz, the “love of her life”.  Their marriage lasted 39 years until his death and was one of working, loving, and laughter while sharing with family and friends especially summer picnics at their home.

She entertained in the Erie area for over 50 years.  She was a musician, an entertainer, and a clown.  Fran played all types of music in many of the different clubs and restaurants in the Erie Area.  She was known as “Bubbles the Clown” entertaining people of all ages.

Fran worked for her husband’s business as the bookkeeper  and did the payroll.  She also cleaned the houses they built as well as painting and staining.  You might say she was a “jack of all trades” but her true love was for music and entertaining.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur G. Hetz; a brother, Richard R. Niebauer, Jr.

Survivors include a step-son, James A. Hetz, wife Becky, of Edinboro; a step-daughter, Susan Peterman, husband Martin, of California; step grandchildren, Justin Walker, Aaron Hetz, wife Megan, John Hetz,  and Katy Hetz; step great-grandchildren, Christopher and Sebastian Walker and Anya Hetz.

Fran requested that no calling hours or services be held.  She will be buried with her husband at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.  Arrangements were handled by Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St. at Greengarden Blvd.
