Charlotte M. Lewis, age 82, of Erie, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Erie Presbyterian Lodge, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Erie on June 11, 1930, to the late Owen Samuel and Wilma Mildred Morse Lewis. After graduating from Millcreek High School in 1948, she married Harold Milton Kanis, who died in 1953, as a result of wounds received during World War II. In 1955, she married William Jean Frogge, an officer in the United States Air Force. Through numerous relocations and foreign duty assignments, she provided a loving and stable home environment for her family.
In addition to raising six children, Charlotte volunteered countless hours with the American Red Cross. This interest developed into a career in nursing. For many years, she worked in Erie as a private duty nurse, who cared for terminally ill patients and comforted them through their final days. She was an active member of several organizations, including the Gold Star Wives, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the local Welsh Society. Her interests included reading, cooking, gardening, needlepoint, and spending time with friends and family.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her son, Peter Allyn Frogge, in 1975; her former husband, William Frogge in 1988, and his daughter, Yvonne Marie Frogge Miller, who passed away earlier this year. Survivors include Charlotte Marie Frogge Tylman, of Erie, William Jean (Theresa) Frogge II, of Lonsdale, Minnesota, Debora Kanis Frogge (Roger) Greenawalt, of Langhorne, PA, Patricia Kanis Frogge Gingrich, of Albuquerque, NM, and Shirley Jean Kanis Frogge Jenkins, of Lake City. Additional survivors include two brothers, Charles Merrill Lewis and Paul Owen (Rita) Lewis, and a sister, Lois Lewis Lanagan, all of Erie; twelve grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
It was Charlotte's request that, instead of flowers or memorials, her friends and family gather to share their favorite memories of her life. A reception will take place at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Boulevard, on Saturday between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Burial will be private at a later date.
