Ersilia J. “Sil” (Clemente) Danowski, age 85, a resident of Sunrise Assisted Living for the past five years, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital. Born in McKeesport, Pa., August 30, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Delphina (Fidei) Clemente.
She attended California State Teachers College and received a Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in mathematics and science. She taught in the Port Vue School District near Pittsburgh. She attended the University of Pittsburgh, where she earned a Master of Education degree, with a major in elementary education. She then taught at Lincoln School, in Erie, prior to starting her family. While her daughters were young, she was involved with Girl Scouts. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, where she was a Eucharistic Minister and involved on various committees. She was an associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph. She enjoyed watching birds and wildlife in her yard on W. 34th Street. While at Sunrise she continued to enjoy playing games and doing crafts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John Danowski and a brother, Alexander Clemente.
She is survived by two daughters, Jean Gleason, of Erie and Connie Larsen, husband Chris, of Ocala, Fla.; three grandchildren, Alexa Gleason, of Erie and Katie and Erik Larsen, of Ocala, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Amelia Clemente, of McKeesport, Pa. and several nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St. at Greengarden Blvd., Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and to attend prayers there, Monday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church at 10 a.m. Entombment will be in the Holy Family Mausoleum at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
