Catherine Toms Denial ended her long and rich life on June 27, 2018 at age 95 and by her faith went to be with God. Catherine was born on September 5, 1922 in Erie, Pa., the daughter of the late Wasil and Marya Toms. She attended East High School, graduating in 1939. She continued her studies at Villa Maria College and Gannon College. She was employed in the Engineering Dept. of G.E.

Catherine was married to Martin Joseph Denial for 45 years and together they raised twelve children. She enjoyed her large family immensely, her source of great pride and joy, and flourished in her roles as mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a member of St. George Church, the Choir, Rosary Society, and Prayer Line. She adored flowers and was a member of Kearsarge Garden Club. She made many friends as a member of Pennbriar and LECOM fitness centers. She enjoyed the activities and the company of her Ladies Club, the Mercy Center, and her Book Clubs. She loved the arts, theater, dance, and music and volunteered as an usher for the Erie Playhouse and attended many ‘Concerts in the Park’ and ‘We Love Erie’ events. She was particularly fond of the many outings to Presque Isle Park with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Martin and her son Gerald, her sisters Eve Becker and Marie Toms, and brothers Michael, Theodore, and Stephen Toms.

Survivors include her daughters Mary Ann Epstein, Kathleen Daurio (Angelo), Jean Viveralli (Ron), Terese Miller, Martha Kendler (John), and Rebecca Denial. Her sons include Peter (Aurora), Joseph (Rebecca), Matthew (Michele), Charles, and Paul.

Catherine’s family would like to thank the doctors and staff of St. Vincent’s and LECOM Health Center for their kind care as well as for the support of her home care staff. Catherine was particularly grateful for the loving support of her devoted daughter Rebecca who was her constant companion and caregiver and her daughter-in-law Becky Denial who accompanied her throughout the years on her medical visits.
