Donald J. Baumann, Sr. age  85, of Fairview, passed away surrounded by love on Saturday, November 10, 2018. Don was born in Erie on November 3, 1933, a son of the late Albert J. and Frances (Sitter) Baumann.

Don graduated from Millcreek High School in 1953. After graduation he went to work for Ervite Corporation for 38 years in the enamel department as an inspector. Don worked long hard hours to provide for his family, at one time holding down three jobs. Don was also the proud owner and operator of a very successful business, Baumann Disposal and Recycling for over 35 years. He was known for his fair business practice and work ethics. His wife Joan and three of his five children also were involved with the family business.

Don was an avid collector of coins and stamps. He was a member of Holy Cross Church and the Holy Name Men’s Society there, and the Erie Stamp Club.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters; Elizabeth (Betty) Schuster, Shirley Isac, his brother; Robert Baumann, an infant brother at birth, a son in law Darrell Copeland and grandson in law Scott Mohra.

Don met the love of his life Joan (Harmon) Baumann on a blind date. They were married on September 10, 1955 and enjoyed 63 happy years together. They have five children; Lynn Copeland of Albion, Nancy (James) Witkowski of Harborcreek, Kimberly (William) Lagana of Girard, Sandra (Jeffrey) Buccigrossi of Fairview and Don Baumann, Jr. (Debra) of Fairview. Don is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.  He was very proud of his family and always made sure to be there for everyone.  He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather that will be truly missed.

Friends are invited to call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th St. at Greengarden Blvd. Friday from 2:00 to 5:00 & 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of the funeral mass at Holy Cross Church, 7100 West Ridge Rd. Fairview at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
