          Donald J. Kadavy, age 88, of Millcreek died peacefully at home with his family on Thursday, November 29, 2018. The devotion from his family and his firm belief in God supported him through numerous illnesses. He was born in Monroeville, Pa., August 27, 1930, a son of the late Jerry Sr., and Agnes Garbowsky Kadavy.

          Donald served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in chemistry and then worked as an analytical chemist for Pittsburgh Coke & Chemical Company (U.S. Steel) and later for LORD Corporation. He was passionate about cars and gardening. Donald was active in the sport of figure skating and was past president of the Westminster Figure Skating Club of Erie. After his retirement from management at LORD’s, he operated Kadavy’s Skate Solutions where he sold and sharpened ice skates.

          In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Kadavy, Jr., in infancy, and a sister, Geraldine Geiger.

          He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marlene Vassel Kadavy; two daughters, Carla Thomas and her husband Lowell, and Caryn Kadavy; a sister, Marie Hickam, and many nieces and nephews.

          Friends and family will be received at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 W. 38th St. at Greengarden Blvd., Sunday, from 2 to 6 p.m., and may attend a funeral Mass, celebrated by Rev. John Detisch, at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 2801 W. 6th St., Monday at 9 a.m. The burial will be a private family ceremony.
