Eileen V. Schneider Cullen, age 94, died at St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge in Erie on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, following a stroke. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on November 14, 1924, in the home her father built. She was the daughter of the late Albert M. and Irene A. Horger Schneider.

Eileen graduated from Holy Redeemer High School in Detroit and worked as a secretary at General Motors Fisher Body Aircraft Division during World War II. After the War ended, she married the love of her life and best friend, James W. Cullen in 1946. Eileen, Jim and their children moved from Detroit to Erie in 1961. Together they provided a foundation of love, faith, wisdom (priceless “kitchen table talk”) and dedication to each other, their family and community. Eileen faithfully carried on their legacy for seven plus years. Her love for family and unshakable faith in God led her to often say, “I’ve been so blessed!” These words will forever be in the hearts of those who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years (2011), her youngest daughter, Rebecca Marie Cullen (1977), her oldest son James D. Cullen (2018), and her siblings Vera Schneider McGillis Reckinger, Alden Schneider and Cecile Schneider Scherf.

She is survived by nine children, Kathleen A. Meola, Robert D. Cullen, Nancy M. Cullen, Doreen T. Rosenbaum and her husband William, David M. Cullen, Joseph T. Cullen and his wife Connie, Daniel T. Cullen and his wife Annette, Brian P. Cullen and his wife Ellen, Carol A. Hutzel and her husband David C. Hutzel, M.D., and daughter-in-law Rose J. Cullen, widow of James D. Cullen. Eileen is also survived by her precious 23 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, as well as her sisters-in-law, Rita Marie LaVoie and Jean Cullen and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1595 West 38th Street at Greengarden Blvd., on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter Cathedral, 230 West 10th St. at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Private burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge, 4855 West Ridge Road, Erie, PA 16506 or the Mother Teresa Academy, 160 West 11th Street, Erie, PA 16501.

The family would also like to express their gratitude for the loving, compassionate care of the St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge staff and Great Lakes Home Health & Hospice nurse, Susan Kuhar.
